Indian Chess Grand-master and proud girl of Vijayawada city Koneru Humpy has been made as the city’s Brand Ambassador. This was announced by the city mayor Koneru Sridhar. The city civic body is making efforts to make use of her services to create awareness among citizens on cleanliness by spreading super star Amitabh Bachan’s telephonic messages comes from Swachh Bharat Paryavekshan helpline.
She will also make use of city’s Swachata’s App, created as part of Swachh Bharat Paryavekshan-2017, containing her messages. A central team is presently visiting city to monitor Swachh Bharat efforts here, from January 17 to 19. The members in teams will be visiting bus stand, railway station, market and other populated places. They will obtain public views on cleanliness and city development.
In 2016, while Mysore city was landed in the first place of Swachh Bharat Paryavekshan, Vijayawada stood at 23rd place. This year, city Mayor said they are making efforts to put this city in the first place.
Humpy said that she has been taking part in `Swachcha Bharath’ activities since two years. She participated in several programmes held in Avanigadda and Challapalli. She made it clear that she has no political ambition, but taking part in these programmes taking inspiration from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Humpy, born in 1987 in Vijayawada, has become the second female player after Judit Polgar to exceed the 2600 Elo rating mark, being rated 2606. In 2002, she became the youngest women ever to achieve the title of grandmaster at the age of 15 years.
