There’s something about writers turned directors. We have seen several of them over the years in Tollywood. Vakkanthan Vamsi is going to be the latest addition among the well-known crop of writers. As they say, most writers walk in to the industry with dreams of becoming a director but start of with the pen because that will give them an entry into the world and also help understand direction from an outsider’s point of view.
It is with this reference, that we’ve made an interesting observation about two of the most talked about directors today. One, Trivikram and two, Koratala Siva. This piece isn’t a comparison but rather an analysis.
Trivikram has been known for his powerful dialogues, his ability to pack a punch with just the utterance of a few words. It’s right when people call him matala mantrikudu!
As for Koratala Siva, he has proved his mettle as a writer and is very fresh in terms of his work as a director is concerned. He is set to test his luck for a hat trick with his upcoming release Janatha Garage, the teaser of which has already been creating an impact and is the most watched teaser (in a short time) for a Telugu film.
The teaser has proven something. It has managed to show Koratala as a writer who has evolved with his ability to direct. The teaser wasn’t just a teaser for the film. It was instead a teaser to what he has become as a director. The dialogue which was in display in the teaser didn’t have a punch, it was rather impactful.
This brings us back to Trivikram and his films. Yes, he is gifted. We do not deny. But all these years l, despite several films as a director, it is the writer in him that has cherished and has been glorified and magnified every time. Because his ability to write has always been superior.
And this is where Koratala is bringing in his own brand of work. He is standing out. If Janatha Garage works, it will be the testimony to the director in Koratala, not the writer, as he has proved with his earlier films Mirchi and Srimanthudu.
