Handloom day
India will celebrate its third National Handloom Day on August 7, 2017. Telangana Minister of textiles K T Rama Rao wrote a letter to the Telangana public representatives including MPs, MLCs and MLAs on Tuesday requesting them to celebrate the National Handloom day with grandeur. In his letter, he elucidated the initiatives taken up by the TRS government for the development of handloom industry. He requested the leaders to dress up in handloom clothing and asked them to honor prominent handloom workers and designers.
Telangana’s Brand Ambassador for Handloom textiles Samantha Ruth Prabhu on Tuesday made an enthralling style statement for sustainability in the handloom. With the Tollywood actress aggressively promoting that traditional Indian handloom, several other actors are also vouching for the handmade clothing. She tweeted, “Handloom is the future !! When you wear something made by a person there is something special there #artisansoftelangana #handloomisbold”
With these aggressive promotions, hope the handloom industry revives to its former glory. It may be noted that the Government of India notified 7th August as National Handloom Day as it was the day in 1905 on which Swadeshi Movement was formally launched, at a massive meeting in the Calcutta Town hall. The movement involved revival of domestic products and production processes.
