Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly decided to make his Nara Lokesh as MLC, before inducting him into his cabinet. In two months, elections are scheduled to be held for 22 MLC seats in the state, of which MLAs will elect seven members. With the present strength, TDP is bound to get its members elected for six seats.
Earlier, it was discussed to pave way for him to elect to the Assembly by asking one of its MLA to resign for his seat. Palamaner MLA Amarnath Reddy from Chittoor district has already came forward to resign to accommodate Lokesh from here. Many more MLAs also assured to resign for the sake of Lokesh.
However, some seniors advised the chief minister it will not be better for both father and son represents side by side constituencies. Moreover, he was also told to get resignation of an MLA for the sake of Lokesh may not send good signals.
As a result, Chandrababu Naidu also has decided to get him elected as MLC for now. Stating that his induction into the state cabinet was a `rumour’, Lokesh today said in Vijayawada till now no such discussion was held within the party. However, clearly indicating that he is waiting for his ambitious elevation, he said that he is ready to perform any responsibility given to him by the party.
As per present indications from the party, the much-awaited cabinet expansion is likely to be taken up by Telugu New Year’s day Ugadi. By that time MLC elections also would be completed. Presently there is only one MLC- Dr P Narayana in the state cabinet. Couple of senior leaders like Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy and Payyavula Keshav also expecting cabinet berths from the legislative council.
