Telugu Desam Party leadership is said to be seriously considering to field party’s national general secretary Nara Lokesh in the MLC elections from East Godavari district local bodies’ constituency. Though earlier it was decided to get him elected from MLAs, later it seems many suggested it would give him some wider exposure among people, if he elects from local bodies.
It may be recalled that already Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has set the stage ready to induct him into his cabinet in the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle. As `unilateral’ poll results from both Godavari districts helped TDP to form its government in 2014 polls, it was advised to field him from East Godavari, which would strengthen the party base in this belt.
Presently senior TDP leader Boddu Bhaskara Ramarao is sitting MLC from this constituency. He is making hectic efforts for re-election. Former minister Chikkala Ramachandra Rao and senior party leader Ganni Krishna, besides many others are also lobbying for this MLC seat.
If all went on well, Lokesh is likely to file his nomination on February 28, for which nomination process was started today. The poll will be conducted on March 18. Today Lokesh will be visiting the district to study ground political realities. In this district TDP has sufficient strength to get it candidate elected without any problem.
Already two senior ministers from the district, finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and deputy chief minister N Chinna Rajappa are said to be preparing ground for his contest from the district, by discussing with party MLAs and other leaders, particularly aspirants for this seat. They are convincing them stating that presence of Lokesh from the district in the cabinet would benefit the district and also the party in a big way.
