Telangana and Maharashtra talks on construction of Tummadihatti Barrage turns fruitful. The TS Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao met his counterpart Girish Mahajan at Nagarpur, and held talks on Tuesday. The Maharashtra has learnt to have agree in principle to the proposed construction, provided, there is no submersion of lands in its territory.
Hyderabad: Talks between the Telagnana and Maharashtra governments have turned fruitful in regard to construction of Tummadihatti barrage. The team of irrigation officials and engineers led by Telangana State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao met their Maharashtra counterparts and explained in details of the barrage construction.
Following this, the Maharashtra government in principle agreed to the barrage construction on the condition there is no submersion of any lands in its territory under the proposed barrage.
The Maharashtra has asked the Telangana government to give the technical details and in turn, the Maharashtra government, after a detailed study of the same would express its opinion at the Pranahita Board Meeting, scheduled on December 29-30.
Both sides agreed to this, at a meeting held between Telangana State Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and his counterpart, Girish Mahajan at Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha in Nagpur on Tuesday.
Explaining the details to Mahajan, Harish Rao said that Telangana is taking up the project to use the allocate share of its water, and this will help in containing the farmers suicides in his state. He apprised further that, in united Andhra Pradesh, Tummadihatti project had been taken up without the consent of Maharashtra, by forming canals. However, the Central Water Commission had expressed doughts over the feseability of water availability to the project, resulting in its programme hit a road block, he said.
