The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today become furious with the arrest of her party’s MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay by CBI in connection with Rose Valley chit fund scam and lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah demanding their arrest.
The chief minister challenged Modi that he can’t suppress the voice of the people. She further said that many political parties are scared, but are not able to speak out, adding that an emergency situation is going on.
Bandyopadhyay’s arrest came soon after another party MP Tapas Pal, accused in the same case, was sent to police custody. Earlier in the day, Bandyopadhyay told media, “I said I will come to face CBI interrogation to know what is against me”. He also alleged political vendetta against him and the Trinamool Congress party by the NDA-ruled Central government.
Sharpening her attacks on the Centre for CBI probe into Rose Valley scam, Mamata Banerjee has demanded investigation into all the chit fund scams since 1980s, claiming it was during the Left rule when such firms gained strength in West Bengal.
Accusing that the Centre is resorting to vindictive arrests using CBI and ED, she extorted that despite being hounded by the CBI and ED, Bengal will show the way in opposing the ‘economic terror’ unleashed in the name of demonetisation. She accused that “Modi Babu is threatening to chase us with Enforcement Directorate and CBI. We don’t fear them. I give an open challenge to Modi babu to arrest all of us.”
Slamming the government for demonetisation, Banerjee said, “People should come out on roads against demonetisation move, people will teach them a lesson. Will protest outside RBI Kolkata on 9th January, and on 10th and 11th January in Delhi.”
Meanwhile, the BJP office in Kolkata was allegedly attacked by TMC students’ wing members. Speaking to a news agency Banerjee warned, “PM does not understand Indian politics. If they think that after the arrest we won’t protest, they are wrong. Will take the legal battle forward, will seek justice from the court.”
