Union government said the establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh would be completed in 60 months. Union health minister JP Nanda informed this to the Andhra Pradesh members in Rajya Sabha today.
The intake of the AIIMS will be 100 under-graduate students . The institute will have, besides the facilities for post-graduate and doctoral courses in various disciplines, provision for a Nursing College as a Centre of Excellency for pursuing program in B.Sc (Nursing) and M. Sc(Nursing). The institute will also have a hospital with 960 beds attached to it. Of which 500 beds will be in hospital and 300 beds meant for super-specialities. Of the remainder, 100 for ICU and accident trauma, 30 for AYUSH and 30 beds for physical medicine and rehabilitation.
The Union minister said the Magalagiri AIIMS was the one of the three centres where the union government was setting up the premier medical institute in India. Besides Mangalagiri, in Guntur district, the other AIIMS the centre was setting up were Kalyani, West Bengal and Nagpur, Maharashtra, the minister said.
According to the minister, the Mangalagiri AIIMs is being established at a cost of Rs 1618 crore while cost of Kalyani and Nagpure were Rs 1577 crore and 1754 crore respectively. All these institutes being set up under Prime Minister’s Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PM SSY) involving total financial commitment of Rs 4949 crore.
” The establishment of each of the new AIIMs will be completed in five years from the date of the approval of the proposal by the government of India. The institute will be completed in three phases: 12 months for pre-construction and ,42 months for construction and 6 months for commissioning,” the minister said. The institute will have 18 speciality departments and 16 super speciality departments, the minister said.
