Varun Tej’s upcoming flick Matka is gearing up for release, and the makers have heightened the promotional activities to build the anticipation.
As the promos suggested, the story of Matka revolves around the protagonist named Vasu. Revealing further, Varun Tej stated, “Vasu comes to Visakhapatnam as a refugee from Burma. The film spans his life from 1958 to 1982, showing his journey of growth and the challenges he faces over the years. This is a story about Vasu’s life.”
The actor unveiled that he had done his home work for the character. “My main homework involved spending a lot of time with my director Karuna Kumar, going through the script repeatedly. This helped me understand the character better and gave me an idea of how Vasu would think, behave, and speak. For example, when reading the script, I got an idea of how he would sit, walk, or even smoke a cigarette.”
He admits that Matka is not a message-oriented film. “It’s a full-fledged commercial mass film. Vasu’s character carries a sense of frustration and anger because no one helps him. As you follow Vasu’s journey, sometimes what he says feels true, sometimes he evokes sympathy, and at other times, you might even feel angry at him. This character undergoes changes in his personality every few years, and you can see these changes in Vasu.
He also affirms that music director GV Prakash is a perfect choice for the film that has a gangster-like vibe.
