“Me too” movement’s tremors are still continuing in film and media industries. The movement started after Tanushree Dutta made harrasment allegations on Nana patekar. Later, many actresses came forward sharing their stories. Top stars like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar extended their support to the movement. Now women directors of bollywood took a sensational decision and announced that they will not work with proven offenders.
Critically-acclaimed directors like – Konkona Sensharma, Nandita Das, Meghna Gulzar, Gauri Shinde, Kiran Rao, Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar , Alankrita Shrivastava, Nitya Mehra, Ruchi Narain and Shonali Bose are the 11 women directors who pledged their support to India’s #MeToo movement and vowed to not work with proven offenders. They released a collective statement through social media that stated, “As women and filmmakers, we come together to support the #MeToolndia movement. We are in complete solidarity with the women who have come forward with honest accounts of harassment and assault. Our respect and admiration to them as their courage has started a revolution of welcome change. We are here to spread awareness to help create a safe and equal atmosphere for all in the workplace. We have also taken a stand to not work with proven offenders. We urge all our peers in the industry to do the same”.
So far, celebrities like Nana Patekar, Rajat Kapoor, Subhash Kapoor, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, Vikas Bahl, Kailash Kher, Sajid Khan, Mukesh Chhabra and Tamil lyricist-poet Vairamuthu have been named and shamed as part of this “Me too” movement.
