The Congress, which has been enthused by the party’s success in the Bihar is roping in many national leaders, who played key role in the passage of T-bill to campaign in Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll. According to TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Party Telangana in charge general secretary Digvijay Singh, former speaker Meira Kumar will participate in the campaign in Bhupal Palli in Parkal Assembly segment on November 15. Later Digvijay will accompany the former AP Governor and former home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is scheduled to participate in the campaign related meeting in Wardhannapet segment on November 16. And young Congress leader Sachin Pilot expected to campaign in Station Ghanpur on November 17.
Meira Kumar and Shinde are being invited to Warangal as they are intimately connected to the bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana state. While Meira Kumar had presided the over the high drama enacted in the Lok Sabha while the House took up the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization BIll 2014, Sushil Kumar Shinde had overseen the whole process of bifurcation as the home minister of government of India. As home minister Shinde introduced the bill in Lok Sabha on February 18,2014. Immediately, unprecedented events took place in the house till the passage of the Bill when Meira Kumar was in chair. Three minutes after Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde began the proceedings for discussing and passing the bill, live telecast was cut off. The doors and galleries were sealed, which was unheard of in parliament history of India.
Both, Meira Kumar and Shinde will explain the people of Warangal what length the Congress had traveled to fulfill the T-promise Congress had made during 2009 elections and the preparedness of the party to face any ignominy for the sake of the people of Telangana. The party tactfully launched a psychological game that it was going to win the election by more than a lakh vote. Now wants to reap advantages by reminding the people of Telangana the difficult way the bill was passed under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.
At one point, the Congress had toyed with idea of fielding Meira Kumar from Warangal with the same logic in mind. But, as the election has become a sort of referendum on TRS government, the party desisted from experimenting with new ideas. Finally, Sarve Satyanaryana has become the party candidate following Sircilla Rajaiah’s tragic withdrawal from the fray.
