Hyderabad Metro Rail is long dream of Hyderabad citizens. The project stared in 2010 and many deadlines passed but in vain. Every time new deadline is surfacing which further escalating the estimated cost of the project. When the works started way back in 2010, the project cost is Rs.12,132crores.
L & T company which has been awarded with the contract by state government faced several problems during currency of contract. Major problem for the project came after formation of TRS government. CM KCR insisted L&T to change the route of project in areas like Sultan Bazar and Old City as previous government’s made a deaf ear to local people problems due to this project.
This causes a huge blow to the company as the new route added the distance thus requires more time to complete. These changes also increased the cost of project to Rs. 16,375 crs from estimated Rs. 12,132crores. According to L & T, the cost of project will increase Rs. 5crores for one day delay.
Earlier, the Hyderabad Metro Project is expected to complete by July 2017. Due to land acquisition problems and delay in finalisation of routes in Sultan Bazar and Assembly areas, the deadlines move to December 2018. L & T is unsure about the new deadline also. Hyderabad Metro Rail became day dream for Hyderabad people in near time.
