Ever since the scam has surfaced Telangana Revenue Department has seen significant changes – be it shuffling of the registrars and sub-registrars involved in scam directly and indirectly or dismissing three officials or reduction in the number registrations or withdrawal of registrations process from anywhere.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who is always ready to target opposition, apparently decided to act before grabbing the mic and answering the questions. It is certain that for obvious reasons CM will go about cleansing the revenue department. Speculations are rife that the corrupt officials will not only be dismissed but also criminal cases will be filed against them.
If reports are to be believed KCR decided to bring the revenue department under his purview by taking the portfolio from Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali. Stamps and registration is critical piece of the revenue department. KCR allegedly came to conclusion that Mahmood Ali lacks experience in the field and the senior officers working in the department not extending cooperation either. The opposition parties in the state have been demanding immediate resignation of Deputy CM over his alleged involvement in the massive swindle. Another consequence is that CM is planning to take control of every department that generates income to the government like Exercise and commercial taxes. The corruption in the departments is causing huge loss to the exchequer.
Apparently, officials who illegal amassed wealth through these bogus registrations are gearing up to contest in 2019 general elections and have been asking for tickets in the respective parties.
KCR who has been conducting series of meetings with officials, decided not to remain tongue-tied on registration of government lands. After C V Anand was made Commissioner of Civil Supplies corruption in the department was significantly reduced. Likewise, the TRS supremo is allegedly planning to appoint IAS officers in revenue department to end the irregularities.
While the CM is concentrating on the departments, the role of CM’s peshi is being suspected in the scam. The land scam is going to remain a black dot for TRS government which in past three years remained unblemished. There are still several questions unanswered – What is the size of Miyapur Scam? Is it 15000 crore rupees or even massive? Is it only Sub registrars mistake? Is the modus operandi restricted to only Hyderabad or all districts of state? What is the level of involvement of Deputy Chief Minister?
