TDP MP JC Diwakar Reddy has expressed concern over the increasing burden on contesting candidates to spend huge amounts in elections. Each assembly contestant was forced to spend not less than Rs. 25 cr in April 11 AP election. All put together, nearly Rs. 10,000 cr was spent by the contesting candidates of different parties in the state. He said that in future, there would be a possibility for the candidates to buy votes at not less than Rs. 5,000 in the next election.
Diwakar Reddy’s main worry is that nobody gave any weightage or respect for the 120 odd schemes that were implemented by CM Chandrababu Naidu. There was no use at all and nobody cared for these achievements of Naidu. If there are no Pasupu Kumkuma and old age pensions, the TDP would have lost all hopes, he added.
There is a concern within the TDP leaders that they had to spend huge amounts despite their government having taken up largescale welfare programmes. This election indeed proved a big challenge as candidates were left with no hope of certain victory despite spending big money.
