The MLC elections from local bodies constituency to be held next month in Kadapa district has turned to be a `proxy war’ between Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, as candidates of both the parties making all-out efforts for their success in the poll.
As the district is known as a fortress for YSRCP, where the party one all the MLA seats, except one seat in the previous elections and also native district of its chief, TDP is making strategic moves to intrude into this district, so that to hit at the morale of the YSRCP party cadre by 2019 polls.
Moreover, Jaganmohan Reddy is fielding his uncle and former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy from this district, who has been succeeding in gaining support from several unconventional quarters. On the other hand, the ruling TDP which seems to have been suffering from severe dissidence problem within the party over finalising the candidature of Ravindranath Reddy popularly known as B. Tech Ravi for local body MLC elections.
As every vote turned to be crucial, both the parties are resorting to camp and kidnap politics indiscriminately. Practically, both the parties started their poll campaign four months ahead.
As part of his efforts, Chandrababu has accepted the proposal of Congress MLC B Chengalrayadu joining the TDP without a second thought to alter the political equations in Kadapa district. TDP also TDP has managed to woo the Jammalamadugu MLA Devagudi Adinarayana Reddy, his brother MLC D Narayana Reddy and Badvel MLA Jayaramulu, who were elected on YSRCP ticket in the 2014 elections.
Congress succeeded in getting support from leaders like former minister D L Ravindra Reddy. The polls also turned to be a challenges task to the police as already tension mounting in Jammulamadugu, Railway Kodur, Proddatur, Kadapa and Rayachoti assembly segments.
