Rajya Sabha witnessed chaos and total disorder as the Opposition raised protest slogans continuously. Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Bill to cancel Article 370 which gives Special Status to Jammu & Kashmir. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu made repeated requests to maintain order but the the Congress and other parties’ members continued sloganeering and obstructed the functioning of the House.
Amit Shah also introduced a Bill to provide for 10 per cent reservations for the economically weaker sections people in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah announced that Article 370 would be cancelled with the Gazette notification of President Ramnath Kovind. Accordingly, the President issued the required notification nullifying Article 370. With this, J&K will no longer enjoy Special Status and the state will be bound by the Constitution of India without any exemptions.
The Opposition MPs rose from the seats and surrounded the Chairman podium. It’s now clear that the Centre called back Amarnath pilgrims and moved large armed forces to ensure peace and order in the J&K.
