BSP supremo Mayawati made an unsparing attack on PM Modi and the BJP leadership over the border tensions with Pakistan. She accused Modi of deliberately taking political mileage out of the escalating Kashmir terror problem. She said the main goal of PM Modi is to divert the attention of the country’s people from the many failures of his government. Her comments assumed significance because of tough fight between rivals in Uttar Pradesh.
Mayawati has become one of the arch enemies for Modi-Shah duo. For this reason, she has entered an electoral alliance with the Samajwadi Party of Akhilesh Yadav in the state which holds the largest number of MP seats in the country. For the national parties, a victory in UP is the key to formation of the government at the Centre. The joining together of SP and BSP is posing a challenge to the BJP now.
The Ram Temple in Ayodhya is not considered as a major advantage for the BJP any longer. There are concerns with in the BJP that it may lose its support base in UP. But with the terrorists’ blast and India’s air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan have changed political scene a little bit. Mayawati and Akhilesh are under pressure now to expose BJP and prevent Kashmir conflict from having an effect on the elections.
