The Andhra Pradesh Congress leaders said that the Assam Assembly elections were the right and opportune time to teach Prime Minister Narendra Modi a fitting lesson. Four senior AP Congress leader, who arrived in Guwati yesterday, launched campaign against BJP in the state elections. They were highlighting the broken promises of NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his partner in Andhra Pradesh, TDP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, citing denial of Special Status to Andhra Pradesh as living example.
“You have a choice to make. It’s between democracy and dictatorship. Modi and the RSS are joint dictators. The Congress is for democracy. We ask whether you want ‘vikas’ or vinaash’. The BJP is the definition of ‘vinaash’ and the Congress has a proven track record of 15 long years of ‘vikas’ and ‘shanti,” APCC president Dr N Raghuveera Reddy told a public meeting on Wednesday.
Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao, opposition leader in AP Council C Ramachandraiah, APCC general secretary Gidugu Ruraraju also addressed the meeting. Before the meeting, they leaders offered prayers at Balaji Temple and local Gurudwara. From there they led a rally for over a kilometre to Pathashil.
This is for the first time that Andhra Congress leaders are campaigning in Assam. They arrived here to a rousing welcome by women offering aaratis, who also garlanded them with gamosas and their highly respected headgear, Jaapi. The huge public meeting surprised all with their spontaneous response and applause as and when speakers attacked Modi’s bluffing during elections. “Modi is a deceiver. He promised a package to Bihar before state Assembly elections. We from the Andhra Congress campaigned there. And we are satisfied they taught him a lesson. It’s a tragedy that cheating and duplicity is the culture the BJP. Assam should not fall prey to this culture,” the Congress leaders said.
