Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy highlighted the utter neglect of Telangana state under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Participating in the meeting of Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs held in Parliament on Monday, Kiran Reddy stressed, while PM Modi Sarkar sanctioned about 118.64 lakh houses in the last ten years under PMAY, just 1.58 lakh houses were allotted to Telangana state.
“Telangana state has been completely neglected under PMAY. While 118.64 lakh houses were sanctioned all over India, just 1.58 lakh houses were allotted to Telangana. This is completely unacceptable. Past BRS Govt led by KCR also failed to coordinate with Centre and ensure allotment of more houses. But present Congress Govt led by CM Revanth Reddy wants to change that scenario and ensure that more houses are allotted to Telangana through proper coordination with Centre,” said Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, after participating in the meeting.
The step-motherly treatment of Telangana by Centre gets evident when one observes the allocations under PMAY. While Telangana was given paltry allocation, PM Modi Sarkar allotted about 21.37 lakh houses to Andhra Pradesh and 17.76 lakh to Uttar Pradesh state in the past decade.
CM Revanth Reddy is focusing on building large number of 2BHKs to accommodate families who will be relocated because of HYDRA and Musi River front development demolitions. As a result the demand for new homes is set to rise in Telangana.
Explaining the need for new homes in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and surrounding areas, MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy urged Standing Committee to allot 6 lakh new homes under PMAY in this year.
“According to the estimates of Telangana Government about 33 lakh new homes are required for home less families. As PM Modi Sarkar is planning to build 1 Crore homes over the next five years, we urge to allot 33 lakh to Telangana. In the first year at least 6 lakh homes should be allotted to Telangana,” said MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy.
