Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to hold elections for district, Mandal and Praza Parishad during April 22-May 14 and submitted the proposal to the Election Commission (EC), which has already prepared the list of rural voters.
The reservations for 32 districts barring Hyderabad have been announced for 535 ZPTC and 5,857 MPTCs. The Telangana Electoral Officer (CEO) has already requested the Chief Election Commission (CEC) for the approval for holding elections for local bodies after the Lok Sabha polls in the state. The CEC has also approved this proposal.
In this backdrop, expressing its readiness, the CEO Telangana has written a letter to the state government. Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao held a review meeting with the officials on the local body elections on Friday. Later, the state government has written a letter to EC to hold elections for the local bodies.
The results for Lok Sabha elections held on Thursday in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be announced on May 23. After this, local body election results will be declared.
The EC has decided to hold ZPTC and MPTC elections in two or three phases owing to the increase in the number of districts and polling centres. Based on the feedback and proposals from district collectors and SPs, the EC will decide on the number of phases for ZPTC and MPTC elections.
The EC will begin training session to returning officials during April 14-15 as soon as the Lok Sabha polls are over.
