Hyderabad: If indications become true, elections for MPTC and ZPTC will be held in Telangana during June. More than 1,600 candidates, who contested in 2014 elections, have been declared ineligible to contest this time. Further, the EC has also barred over 11,103 candidates from contesting MPTC and ZPTC elections as these are facing three-year ban over not submitting poll expenditure details pertaining to 2013 Panchayati elections. With this, over 12,600 candidates became ineligible for ZPTC and MPTC elections.
Though three-year term would end with 2016 year, it’s effective till 2021 year as the EC initiated action too late.
The Election Commission (EC) has started initiating process of elections for ZPTC and MPTC in two or three phases in Telangana. The EC has asked district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) to submit their proposals.
The EC has barred over 1,600 candidates from contesting in ZPTC and MPTC elections as they failed to submit their 2014 poll expenditure details to the EC, which had conducted the elections in single phase.
Owing to increase in number of districts and polling centers, the EC has decided to hold ZPTC and MPTC elections in two or three phases. Based on the feedback and proposals from district collectors and SPs, the EC will decide on the number of phases for ZPTC and MPTC elections.
The EC will begin training session to returning officials during April 14-15 as soon as the Lok Sabha polls are over.
