Kapu leader and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham seems to be getting ready for another show of his might to the government. After holding a meeting with leaders of Kapus Joint Action Committee from 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh, today he announced four-phase agitational programme.
It may be recalled that last month he resorted to six-day `satyagraha padayatra’ from Nov 16 to 21, in East Godavari district. However he had postponed his agitation after police officials persuaded him on the pretext that he did not obtained `police permission’. The proposed `padayatra’ will be conducted now from Jan 25 to 30. It will starts from Ravulapalem and concluded at Antarvedi, as proposed earlier.
Expressing adamant attitude towards government’s persuasion to seek police permission for his `padayatra’, he made it clear that he need not seeks permission from any one. Further, he warned against creating any obstructions to his agitation and said he will go ahead whatever may come.
According to Padmanabham, the four-phased agitation begins on December 18, wearing black ribbons and sounding with steel plates and spoons. On Nov 30 Kapus will met their respective people’s representatives to submit memorandums on their demands. On Jan 9 they will organise rallies with candle lights, followed by Padayatra.
It may be recalled after withdrawing his indefinite in last June, the former minister has been asserting that he will continue the agitation for reservations for the Kapu community. “The agitation will go on till the goal is achieved,” he said. Since then he has been meeting several prominent Kapu leaders seeking their support.
Earlier, he had given ultimatum to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu to get a resolution of the assembly by August, 2016, seeking reservations to Kapus. As the judicial commission headed of Justice Manjunath is yet to complete its process before submitting a report, it is likely that the government may not move ahead for next few months.
