Seasoned star Akkineni Nagarjuna is known for his prudent selection of films both as an actor and a producer. His recent track record is very decent with films like Soggade Chinni Nayana, Oopiri and Raju Gari Gadhi 2 delivering desired results at box office. At this juncture of his career, Nag took a gamble by doing a film for Ram Gopal Varma who lost his touch long back.
The film, titled as Officer, released today to embarrassing reports from all sections of audience. The pared-to-death storyline and confusing narration with bizzare camera angles have let the film completely down and Akkineni fans have been thoroughly disappointed with Nagarjuna’s ham-fisted choice of script selection.
Officer opened on a disastrous note at box office in all areas. While the domestic revenues are below par, the overseas collections are very embarrassing.
Nag commands decent market in overseas as his previous films performed well there. However, his ill-thought-out plan to team up with RGV and not giving due to attention to the genre has back fired severely. Officer opened on a very poor note with $ 27K from its Thursday premiers.
This is a pathetic start for a hero like Nagarjuna as the collections are not even close to those of medium range young debut heroes. These embarrassing openings once again serve as a reminder that films with routine genre and lackluster script will be thoroughly rejected by overseas audience even though it has a star hero in the lead role.
