Expressing solidarity to the Kapu ‘quota movement, Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy cautioned the Kapus to observe restraint while participating in the movement as chief minister Chandrababu Naidu was hell bent on trying to derail it with violence.
Addressing media, Jagan said the success of Kapus conferences always ended up in the outbreak of the violence.
” In 1988, when Vijayawada Kapu Nadu was a success, Chandrababu Naidu got Kapu leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga murdered. Some of the accused in Ranga case are now occupying important positions in the government. While one accused is made speaker, the other-Deveneni Uma, is appointed irrigation minister. The third accused is an MLA,” Jagan said drawing parallel with yesterday’s violence in Tuni.
” Yesterday’s meeting of Kapus was also a success. Lakhs of people turned up at the meeting despite chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s effort to stall it. Even though the date for Kapu Ikhya Garjana was released four months in advance, Naidu sought to create hurdles to see that the meeting was not held. He threatened the bus operators and tried to stop people carried to the venue at Tuni. He stopped kapu leaders in TDP from attending the meeting. Still the meeting was a success. Apprehensive that Kapus would get inspired by the success and get ready for a movement, Naidu sent his men to create violence at Tuni. The violence was the handiwork of Naidu and his men. There is similarity between Vijayawada Kapu Nadu success and Tuni and resultant violence,” Jagan said alleging Naidu as number one criminal with a criminal brain.
“Why shouldn’t Chandrababu Naidu be called criminal number one? ,” Jagan asked.
” Naidu cheated every section of the society. He cheated farmers by promising loan waiver and the backing out on it. He cheated SHG women by promising loan waiver. He cheated student by promising a job to every family and Rs 2000 non-employment allowance in case there is no job. He promised BC status to Kapus and now backing out. Aren’t these enough to call him criminal number one,” he asked.
The opposition leader alleged that chief minister Chandrababu Naidu was a chronic liar.
“He categorically mentioned that Kapus will be given reservations without harming the interests of Backward Classes. Now, he says BC are opposed to it. Didn’t you know these things in 2014 when you were preparing the manifesto. Naidu said he would provide Rs 5000 crore in five years for Kapus. Now he says there is no money. You (the CM) have money to splurge on foreign jaunts and useless Pattiseema project. You cite FRBM as constraint. These are all lies,” he said and announced unwavering support to the Kapu reservations and their movement.
