Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu of late appears to be appeasing the Brahmins in a big way. Though the community may not be a force to reckon with electorally, their big presence among the elite of the society might have forced the CM to take steps to influence the community.
First he appointed Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation Limited. Later he chose noted scholar Chaganti Koteswar Rao as advisor to the government to guide in the matters of cultural and spiritual matters. He announced this appointment on Ugadi festival day, while conferring on him Kalaratna-Hamsa.
He appointed IRY Krishna Rao, an erudite scholar and former chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh chairman of Brahmin Corporation. Taking special interest in the welfare of the poor among the Brahmins has never been done in Andhra Pradesh in the recent past. The credit of setting up of the corporation and appointing a former bureaucrat as the head goes to chief minister Naidu. Now, IYR Krishan Rao has announced three schemes for the welfare of the community.
The schemes are:
1) Gayatri Scheme for Academic Excellence. Under the scheme the topper of schools,colleges, and universities will be awarded with a certain amount in the courses of SSC, Intermediate or equivalent, professional education and post-graduation.
2) Vashista Scheme for coaching for competitive examinations: Under the scheme coaching will be provided for the state government / central government competitive examinations through identified coaching centres. 3). Garuda scheme for funeral Expenses – The scheme is meant for extending Financial Assistance of Rs 10,000 to the relatives of deceased Brahmin, towards funeral expenses.
