Former chief minister and TDP supremo, N Chandrababu Naidu, wrote a letter to DGP, K V Rajendranath Reddy, highlighting the law and order deterioration in Andhra Pradesh.
He said that the continuous attacks against vulnerable sections of the society like, Minorities, Backward Class (BCs) communities, women, Adivasis and Dalits are going unchecked encouraging perpetrators. These attacks not only show the failure of law and order in the State, but clearly point out to the gross violation of fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution, he said.
The recent incident of Duggirala Karunakar’s suicide in Musunur Dalit Colony, Kavali town in Nellore district illustrates the violation of fundamental rights and indicates dismal failure of law and order in the State, Chandrababu Naidu said.
It is reported that since past three years, two YSRCP leaders, Kethireddy Jagadeeswara Reddy and Suresh Reddy along with their henchmen have been harassing Karunakar by creating impediments and hurdles from catching fish from the two lakes, the TDP chief said in his letter.
It appears that in spite of repeated requests from Karunakar, the two YSRCP leaders did not relent, and ultimately drove him to commit suicide, the TDP chief said. It is sad that one of the perpetrators Jagadeeswara Reddy is holding a position in the Board of Srisailam Temple. Earlier, attacks against Dalits were either side-lined or attempts were made to cover up. Since past three years’ series of attacks and atrocities are being orchestrated against Dalits, with police taking either no action or improper action. As a consequence, the perpetrators are implicitly encouraged and Shri Karunakar’s suicide is to be perceived in this framework. Simultaneously, people in general and Dalits in particular are losing faith over police.
Therefore, it is appealed to take action against the suicide abettors of Karunakar, in order to contain attacks against vulnerable sections in general and Dalits in particular. It has been time and again represented to you about the need for police discharging their duties impartially and sincerely as per the law. Only a proper and immediate action would help in not only saving Dalits from further attacks, but also would help in maintaining law and order, Chandrababu Naidu said in his letter and requested the DGP to take steps to provide security for the neglected sections of the people and take action against the violators of the law and order.
