Former minister and Rayalaseema Congress leader Sake Sailajanath today took strong objection to the cancellation of Chittoor district Drinking Water Scheme initiated by previous Congress government. He dubbed the decision to cancel the project another injustice meted out to Rayalasema by Telugu Desam government led by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
TDP government on Friday issued a GO cancelling Chittoor District Drinking Water Project stating that it was technically not advanced and was intended to cover the district partially. As an alternative, the government assured the people of the district that the Krishna water being transferred to Penna basin following the construction of Pattiseema would be supplied to the district. Sailajanath, however, dismissed Naidu’s ideas a pipe dream and harm the interests of the Rayalaseema region, Chittoor district in specific.
“First Naidu did injustice by denying capital to the region. Later in every respect the region lost priority in the TDP government. Now, the chief minister Naidu scrapped a crucial drinking water scheme meant to cover entire district just because the scheme was planned by the Congress government,” he said. “The Congress government had allocated Rs 7390 crore to the project and work had begun when TDP government came to power in 2014. It is unfortunate that TDP government chose to scrap a project showing a non-existent State wide grid. Naidu cancelled the project with the fear that the people of Chittoor district would remember the project as Congress contribution to the region,” he said.
