Why Chandrababu Naidu beat a hasty retreat from his fight against the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation project being planned by Telangana government on Krishna River.
Immediately after foundation-stone laying ceremony by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao last year, Naidu dashed off two letters to the center urging it to stall project, which, he said in the letter, were illegal. After that suddenly Naidu fell silent. There has been no talk of the project nor was any perusal on the letters he wrote to the centre. Why?
APCC president N Raghuvira Reddy alleges that Naidu is terribly afraid of cash-for-vote scam. The file seeking permission for the persecution of Naidu was on the table of KCR. Once KCR affixes his initial on the file, anything can happen. So to save his own skin Naidu stopped raising voice against the illegal project, which is going to spell doom to eight districts of Andhra Pradesh .
Raghuvira led a massive protest program at Srisailam project today opposing the construction of Palamuru-RR district lift. ” Palamuru project is meant to draw 160 tmc water from Srisailam. Tenders have been invited. If the project is completed, besides four Rayalaseema districts, Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore will also be affected. About 50 lakh acre would be denied water and 2 crore people suffer shortage drinking water. Still Naidu is not able to raise his voice just because he wants to save his own skin,” he said.
Congress wants to intensify the movement against Telangana projects, he said demanding immediate convening of Andhra Pradesh Assembly to pass a resolution opposing the project and urging the centre to stall it immediately in the interest of people of eight districts in Andhra Pradesh. All senior leaders such as Kotla Jayasurya Prakash Reddy, Kasu Krishna Reddy etc participated in the program.
