Election Commission has released the Nandyal by-election schedule. The notification will be issued on 29th July. The last date for filing nominations is 5th August. The polling will be conducted on 23rd August and the counting and results will be declared on 28th August. The model code of conduct would come into force once the notification is issued.
District Collector S Satyanarayana has been entrusted with the responsibility to recognize the polling staff from areas other than Nandyal. They were also asked to revise electoral rolls in house to house visits.
The Nandyal seat felt vacant after the demise of Bhuma Nagi Reddy in March2017. Both the ruling TDP and Opposition YSRCP have taken this by-poll prestigiously.
It will be first political test for Minister Nara Lokesh and a referendum for the three-year rule of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. For the Opposition party, the by poll is an opportunity to display anti-incumbency in Andhra Pradesh. The by-election will be an assessment for political strategist Prashant Kishor. Around five parties will be fielding candidates including TDP, YSRCP, Congress, RPS and probably Jana Sena.
