Polling is happening for the assembly seats in Nandyal today. The bypoll is primarily a fight between ruling Telugu Desham Party and Opposition YSR Congress Party. However, around 15 candidates are contesting in the elections which includes Congress. TDP’s candidate Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy a newbie will lock horns with political veteran YSRCP’s Silpa Mohan Reddy.
The seat fell vacant after the demise of the local MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy in February. While initially both the parties termed Nandyal by-election as referendum for the TDP’s three year rule, as the date approached the leaders withdrew their statements. Nonetheless both Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy are considering winning the byelection as a prestige issue. While the TDP cabinet has been deployed in Nandyal along with a bunch of MLAs, Jagan himself put his heart in the campaign.
All eyes are on the electorate of Nandyal who have to pick between Jagan’s Navaratnalu and Chandrababu’s development Agenda.
