Another law maker belonging to the opposition YSR Congress has been arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police. MLA Dr Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy, who represents the Narasaraopet Constituency in Guntur district, has been arrested this morning in connection with a demonstration he participated in front of the office of MRO Rompicherla.
This is the second arrest involving opposition legislators in the past one week, the first being the arrest of Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, who was allegedly manhandled the manager of Tirupati airport a month ago. He was taken into custody from Chennai airport in the small hours on Sunday.
The government has booked a case against Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy for obstructing the official from discharging their duties. On January 11, farmers of Ramireddyapali village had staged a dharna on front of the MRO office of Rompicherla. According to the police the YSR MLA also participated in the dharna and allegedly stopped the officials from entering the office.
Reacting on the arrests, party MLA Roja criticized the TDP government attitude towards the MLAs from the opposition parties. Chief Minister Naidu was getting terribly intolerant of opposition party activities. She said cases were being booked against the MPs and MLAs of YSRCP on flimsy grounds and none these cases warrant arrest, she said.
She said Naidu was scared of YSRCP’s campaign against the Naidu’s failures and was trying to gag the voice of the opposition party.
