Narasaraopet MP Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu quit the ruling YSR Congress and the Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday. He sent his resignation letter to the party president. He also sent his resignation letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.
The MP said that the party leadership is thinking of bringing a new face to the Narasaraopet Parliament seat. He said he is interested in contesting for the second term but since the party is looking for a new face, he said he vacated the seat.
The MP said that he had tried to convince the party leadership to give him the ticket once again. However, the party is firm on having a new face for the Lok Sabha seat. He did not want to give any inconvenience to the party leadership and hence quit the party, he said.
He further said that he had worked for the development of the constituency in the last five years. He brought several schemes to the constituency and developed it, he said. He said that his supporters in the constituency were in a confusion over his contest again. To clear every confusion, he said he had sent his resignation.
Lavu is the third MP to quit the party. Kurnool MP Dr Sanjeev Kumar had quit the party followed by Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowri. Balashowri had joined the Jana Sena and would be contesting the seat on Jana Sena ticket.
Lavu’s exit would be a great loss to the ruling YSR Congress Party. His exit would cost dearly for the party as he enjoys greater support of the rank and file in the constituency. Though Lavu did not make any criticism of the ruling party, his exit will certainly have an adverse impact on the electoral advantages of the ruling party.
It is to be seen how chief minister and the ruling YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would handle the issue in Narasaraopet constituency, particularly after the exit of Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu.
