Nizamabad, the constituency in which Congress Party dominated in the last two Lok Sabha elections changed its course completely in the last five years. The situation is so worse that there are no candidates in Congress interested to compete in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
According to the sources, only one candidate applied for that ticket. This constituency is currently represented by KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha and in the last two polls i.e. in 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Madhuyashki Goud won from this region. But this time, no senior leaders including Yashki is interested to acquire candidature from this constituency.
Former Minister Sudarshan Reddy was approached by the party high command regarding Nizamabad ticket, but it is known that he was not willing to take the seat. It seems like MLC Shabbir Ali is interested in contesting from Zaheerabad constituency. So, TPCC gave DCC chairman the responsibility to propose five names including Madhuyashki and Sudarshan Reddy for this seat. Rumours also say that the name of the applied leaders may not be included in the list. At the same time, there is also a possibility that Madhuyashki will be nominated from Bhuvanagiri, where he is facing strong competition from local leaders.
The Congress high command has received 380 applications from 17 constituencies seeking Lok Sabha tickets in the state. It is also rumoured that the names of those who did not apply are also considered by DCCs. As the names can be included in the list in three stages, the key leaders of the party are relentless in their efforts.
