Hyderabad should be a leading city to fight against rape, sexual abuse and trafficking of children while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State must become leading partners to become the voice for the voiceless children, said Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi at a press conference in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
He announced that the Bharat Yatra, the march that he will be undertaking from 11September to fight child sexual abuse and trafficking, will be reaching Hyderabad on 21September2017.
Through this march, Mr.Satyarthi demands Child friendly courts, fast track and dedicated courts for solving child trafficking issues, increase in judicial dispositions and measures for giving psychological treatment to victims.
According to the 2015 NCRB report, 99% of the perpetrators who sexually assault children are known to their victims, which makes the crime harder to prevent and detect.
He said that despite being largest democracy in the world, kids in 2017 are scared to go to schools. While appreciating the POCSO act, he said that victims live in state of fear.
Mr.Satyarathi called upon young people especially students to march from Fear to Freedom and said that he is counting immensely on the power of youth to make this event a huge success. He said New India needs to be safe, free and educated. Mass awareness and Mass mobilisation is needed which is the sole purpose of this Yatra.
He is speaking to all faith leaders and scholars in Hyderabad on Tuesday to ensure that the victims are given shelter in the religious shelter and for taking collective action to fight against child trafficking and child sexual abuse.
