Director Sriram Aditya, who is making multi-starrer movie with Nagarjuna and Nani finally announced that it is remake of a Hindi film, Johnny Gaddaar. Nag is playing Don while Nani is playing doctor and 50% of the movie is complete now.
Johnny Gaddaar released in 2007, is neo-noir thriller film written and directed by Sriram Raghavan. The movie got huge critical acclaim as well as commercial success in 2007. The movie is about the gang of five that run a gambling club in the front end and conduct other underhand deals in the back ground – like selling illegally obtained idols, smuggled goods. The story takes a new turn when one of these 5 tried to betray others. It stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Dharmendra, Zakir Hussain and Rimi Sen.
The film has one novel point – Neil, one of the 5 members of gang who tries to betray others, makes his moves based on the scenes in old bollywood movies. All his moves and sketches to betray his own gang and his escape plans – everything will be based on a scene in some old bollywood movie and most of them were Amithab’s movies. That point worked terrificly in the movie.
We have seen somewhat similar concept in Drushyam movie, where hero gets inspiration from old movies. But the way it is used in Johnny Gaddaar was much more intellectual. If director of Telugu film Sri Ram Aditya had adopted that part to Telugu movies and makes Nani to get “inspiration” from Telugu movies in his sketches, probably that point will work in Telugu too. Moreover, Sri Ram has handled movies of this genre and he is very adept at making multistarrers.
We will have to wait and see how this movie shapes up and how audience will receive.
