The YCP tried hard to prevent higher polling but it couldn’t be achieved. The AP polling saw Muslim minority voters enthusiastically casting their votes despite facing hardship. Analysts say that 80 to 90 per cent minority voters supported the TDP. It was a clear vote against the YCP’s deal with the BJP and TDP which is an open secret in the twin Telugu states.
The AP sentiment has also worked against the YCP. Jaganmohan Reddy’s comments during the election campaign have offended the feelings of AP people. Jagan commented favourably to KCR and PM Modi at a time AP people are seething with anger over continuing injustice to their State. The YCP leaders have not taken steps to fill the loss of vote banks of the muslim community and also AP sentiment sympathisers.
Jaganmohan Reddy has blindly gone forward on his policy towards the BJP and TRS. He considered their support would be enough to win the election somehow. This could help Jagan and his poll managers to exploit the election machinery and distribute cash on a large scale. The YCP successfully bought the voters in most places but that is relatively very small when compared with the welfare benefits given by Chandrababu. All these factors eventually gave a final blow to Jagan going by higher voting percentage.
