The opposition parties today rocked the Telangana assembly alleging government shading away from fulfilling its promise on fees reimbursement. They became angry when the house was abruptly adjourned even before they were seeking clarifications to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s response. Protesting against government’s attitude they remain sitting in the house even after adjournment and continued protest till late evening.
Soon after CM K Chandrashekar Rao spoke on the issue assuring that the pending arrears will be cleared, deputy speaker Padma Devender Reddy adjourned the House without giving an opportunity to the opposition parties to seek clarifications. Taken aback, the members of Congress, TDP, BJP, CPM and also the MIM sat in the corridors of the House in protest against the same. The opposition legislators said they would not leave till the government releases arrears of fee reimbursement.
MIM, which proclaims to be friendly with the current government, too lashed out at the government. “It is a sad day for democracy,” MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said. Owaisi accused that the government is running away from discussion on fees reimbursement. He wondered that the government that is sparing hours together to discuss on monkeys and fishes, but avoiding this crucial issue.
Asking the opposition parties not to create apprehensions among students and their parents, the Chief Minister said there were loopholes in implementation of the scheme since its launch during the Congress rule, and when the TRS came to power, these stood at Rs.1,880 crore. He claimed that during Congress rule, funds were never released on time. He said the state required Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 crore every year for the scheme. During the current year, Rs 1,487 crore were allocated for the scheme.
However, the Congress and other Opposition parties want a time schedule for clearing the dues said to be to the tune of Rs 4410 crore.
