The Telangana state government is preparing to organise Osmania University’s centenary year celebrations in a magnificent way from April 26 to 28, 2017. It is the seventh oldest university in the country, the third oldest in south India and the first established in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. It has significantly contributed to the academic and economic development of not only the region but also of the Country
Osmania University is named after its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad who rather through a farman or Royal Charter, brought the University into existence in 1918. The establishment of Osmania University symbolizes a renaissance in the Indian educational system.. It has a vast sprawling campus set in a picturesque and idyllic surroundings. Buildings of great architectural elegance and variety enhance its beauty.
Already over one crore students studied in this university and many of them reached to higher positions in various fields, spread all over the globe. Chief Minister K Chadnrasekhara Rao has directed to conduct the celebrations in a fitting manner. Deputy chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari today conducted a preparatory meeting.
They have decided to ahead of the centenary celebrations, to take up repairs to existing buildings and roads, besides constructing a centenary convention center. A centenary volume will be brought out with 100 best publications of the university.
Besides inviting President, Prime Minister and several union ministers to the centenary celebrations, the state government is contemplating to form Confederation of Vice Chancellors, by inviting Vice Chancellors of the VCs in the country. The University will be launching a special centenary celebrations website soon, besides setting up Center for Telangana Studies.
