Majnu overseas collections

Actor Nani couldn’t have asked for a better year. He has had three releases so far in 2016, including the latest release Majnu, and all of them have struck the right chord with the audience. After exploring two entirely different genres with Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha and Gentlemen, Nani is back as a happy-go-lucky romantic guy with Majnu, which opened in theatres last Friday.

The Virinchi Varma directional has garnered an unanimous response from the film goers right from the first day. The simple yet entertaining narration by the director coupled with the neat act of Nani and the glamour quotient of the female leads impressed the audience. Majnu opened on a good note across the Telugu states.

In overseas, where Nani commands solid market, Majnu had a decent start on its premiers and Friday. The film has collected $ 57K from its premiers and improved strongly on Friday as it collected $110K taking the total to $ 167K. Though this is a good start, Majnu has a long way to go for break even. The overseas rights were bought for 2.6 Crores and it was sold to buyers for 3.1 – 3.3 Crores ( Approx). So the film need to collect around $ 800-900 K to enter the profit zone. Going at this rate, Majnu might end as a loss venture in overseas.

On the first Friday, Nani’s Gentleman collected $ 141k and Majnu managed to notch up only $ 110K. So, Majnu should pick up strongly on Saturday and Sunday to gain the hit status in overseas. As of this writing, Majnu collected a below par $38k on Saturday We have to wait and see if brand Nani can continue the success streak in overseas.
