After his miserable failure in Bihar to get enter into state assembly, the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehad- ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi seems to be realised that Muslims need a potential alliance and found dalits a predominant social group in this regard. He started to make this experiment in Uttar Pradesh trying to establish alliance with Dalits.
Since last one year when he started his campaigning in the politically crucial state, Owaisi has been advocating for `Muslim-Dalit’ unity to come out from the clutches of established political parties.
Going a step ahead, now he termed Dalit icon B R Ambedkar a “bigger leader” than Mahatma Gandhi. He also asserted that it was because of the secular and class-free Constitution given by the Dalit icon which has ensured justice in society.
The Hyderabad MP made this remark while continuing his poll campaign in UP. At a time Congress and other parties accusing him of collusion with BJP to divide Muslim votes by contesting in large number of constituencies knowing pretty well he can’t win a single seat, he started making attempt to attract dalits by invoking Ambedkar’s name.
“Ambedkar is a bigger leader than Mahatma Gandhi … had Ambedkar not given a secular and class-free Constitution, the level of injustice in the country would have been much more and RSS people would not have left any opportunity to spoil the situation,” Owaisi added.
He is also making attempts to invoke `patriotism’ among dalits by referring to Modi’s `soft attitude’ towards Pakistan’s aggressive raids. Ridiculing Modi’s foreign policy, he said saying before getting elected to the post Modi had said he would give a “befitting” reply to Pakistan. But such a response was still to come even after the martyrdom of 28 jawans following the surgical strike, he said.
