Tamil Nadu assembly speaker disqualified 18 MLAs of Dinakaran group yesterday. The disqualification of 18 dissident AIADMK MLAs by speaker Dhanapal has not only offered a new lease of life to Palaniswami government, but also shattered the DMK’s hopes for an early election.This move also helped Palaniswami to consolidate his hold over the party. After this disqualification, total strength of the house comes down and Palani sarkar can easily get the magic figure to pass if floor test happens.
The DMK has been demanding a floor test ever since 18 AIADMK MLAs of Dinakaran group submitted letters to Governor Vidyasagar Rao, conveying their disapproval of Mr. Palaniswami’s leadership. But by disqualifying these 18 members Palani swamy shattered DMK’s hopes on early elections. “As per rules, a member of the House could be disqualified if he had left the party he belonged to or voted against the whip. By disqualifying MLAs on the ground that they had made a representation to the Governor, Speaker P. Dhanapal had joined hands with Chief Minister K. Palaniswami and murdered democracy without any qualms,” Mr. Stalin charged.
With this move, AIADMK seems to be conveying people that the AIADMK government is fully aware that the DMK will sweep the elections if they are held now and so they are finding ways to delay the polls.Let’s wait for more twists in this Dravidian drama in coming days!!!
