Amid the ever-growing migration of Kapu MLAs and Leaders to TDP, in an effort to reassure them that he was serious about taking a plunge into politics, Tollywood firebrand and Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan reaffirmed that there would be no going back on fighting the electoral battle in 2019. There is also another message in his talk that he is drifting from the TDP, inconspicuously though. The number of Kapus is burgeoning in such a way that it looks like a Kapu party, numerically.
Pawan Kalyan, who wants to do couple of movies for his own financial support, spoke to some verncular TV channels yesterday. Just a month ago, after a long silence, he made apparent that he would end his silence after two or three movies and his army of fans would see him as the full-time politician. But, this announcement has not reassured his own community, Kapu, by far the largest community in Andhra Pradesh. Instead of waiting for his arrival on the scene prominent Kapu leaders are slowly gravitating towards Telugu Desam party. Between his previous interview and yesterday’s, very important leaders- Sai Pratap (former MP), V Subbarao and Jyothula Nehru(MLAs) crossed over to TDP. Nehru is joining today. Another important development is that Kapu war-horse Mudragada Padmanabham had been silenced. Losing all Kapu leaders , Pawan’s principal constituency, may weaken him before he takes a plunge. Pawan sought to reassure his people, that his statement that he would take the lead in 2019 was not a frivolous utterance to hog the media limelight. Another important reasoning behind the timing of the statement is the not-so-enthusiastic response to the SGS from non-fan public.
To convince his political audience about his imminent arrival, he tried to elaborate on his political action plan. He said he was unhappy about the defections. In his view engineering defections would deface the beauty of democracy- political pluralism. ” Political pluralism is the heart of democracy. Political monoculture would defeat the goal of the democracy. There should be scope for multiple voices. And Jana Sena would be one of them. More people, more differences and more voices,” he said implying that chief minister Naidu was throttling the multiple voices.
He said he was stickler of rules. ” One has to adhere to the principles. Unless you are compelled by strong reasons, you are not supposed to abandon the principles, ” he said. He also indicated that his party would contest the elections in 2019, both in Andhra and Telangana. For those unbelievers, the ‘power star’ said he had already begun formulating the strategies for 2019 general polls in two Telugu states.
“I am committed to fight a battle on behalf of poor. I love to take up cause of the people,” Pawan said.
He sought to send across a subtle message to his constituency ( mostly Kapus) by implying that he would tread an independent course. In 2014 he aligned with Telugu Desam party and campaigned in the Elections. Though his campaign worked, it did disappoint many Kapu leaders following chief minister Naidu’s failure to implement his poll promises given to the Kapus. Pawan Kalyan didn’t say that he would severe his ties with TDP, at the same to he was emphatic that the was an independent thinker and would love to work independently. Another subtle message to his admirers is that he refused to rate the performance of Telugu Desam government.” I am very poor at maths. People will give the correct marks,” he said when he asked how many marks would he give to TDP government in the state.
He talked many things including ‘special category status to Andhra Pradesh is must’ and there was nothing wrong in chanting ‘Bharta Mata Ki Jai’. He dismissed the talk that Chiranjeevi would join Jana Sena. ” We have chosen two different paths. He is sailing with Congress. My path is different,” he said.
