The coalition government has delivered sweet news to handloom workers struggling with financial difficulties, bringing new hope to their lives. The decision to provide free electricity to 200 units monthly for homes and 500 units for power looms has been met with joy among weavers.
The government’s electricity subsidy aims to financially support families who have chosen handloom textile production as their profession. Approximately 93,000 handloom families and 10,534 power loom units across the state will benefit from this scheme.
A special provision ensures beneficiaries don’t lose their entire subsidy if they exceed the allocated units. Handloom families using more than 200 units will only pay for the additional consumption beyond the free allocation.
“We’re extremely happy about receiving 200 free units. Earlier, we couldn’t even afford to pay electricity bills from our earnings,” shared a weaver from Gadwal, known for its silk sarees in United Kurnool district.
The previous government offered only 100 free units, while the current coalition government led by Chandrababu Naidu, IT Minister Lokesh, and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has doubled this benefit, helping approximately 6,000 families in the district.
