Roja arrest
YSR Congress party’s `fire brand’ MLA R K Roja today witnessed a bitter experience as the police taken her into their custody after she reached Gannavaram airport to attend the National Women’s Parliament, being organised by the Andhra Pradesh government. She reached the airport on the invitation of the government and also registered herself as a delegate, like all other MLAs.
However, after reaching the airport she was mobbed by the police and not allowed to move forward. She was `detained’ in a room, on the plea that Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama is reaching there to catch a flight. Police not allowed her to move anywhere for about an hour.
Later police shifted her to Vijayawada. Even there she was not allowed to go to her hotel room and police allegedly taking her towards Nallapadu of Guntur district. It seems that the government is suspecting she may raise `growing atrocities on women’ during TDP regime in the state.
Strongly condemning police attitude, the actress-turn-politician Roja wondered that having invited her for the conclave why the police are preventing to take part in it. “The government extended invitation to me, issued pass to me, but after reaching airport police preventing me to move forward,” she added.
On one side by organising a national conclave focusing rights of women, she flayed how can Chandrababu Naidu government resorts to prevent a women MLA.
YSRCP official spokesperson and former MLA Jogi Ramesh has strongly deplored over the attitude of the police taking Roja into their custody, when she was coming to attend a government’s programme, on government’s invitation. Accusing that this reflects the state of respect Chandrababu Naidu is giving to women, he said they would question the DGP about police unwarranted attitude.
