Political uncertainties continue in Tamil Nadu following the high voltage power struggle between two rival factions of the ruling AIADMK deepening the crisis. In a significant development Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan will be meeting Governor Vidyasagar Rao, later this evening. Leader of Opposition M K Stalin also met the Governor indicating exciting political developments in the state.
The party general secretary VK Sasikala has removed senior leader and party’s presidium chairman E. Madhusudanan from the primary membership of the party and replaced him with KA Sengottaiyan. Madhusudhanan yesterday defected to the O.Panneerselvam camp, sharply criticising Ms Sasikala’s functioning. He also has written to the Election Commission urging it not to recognise V K Sasikala as the party General Secretary saying she was not elected to the post as per party by-laws.
Governor’s decision on the two contrasting representations of both the camps led by acting chief minister O.Panneerselvam and chief minister-designate VK Sasikala is being awaited. Panneerselvam has charged that MLAs are being held captives using strong arm tactics. In this backdrop, Governor Vidyasagar Rao held discussions with the state Director General of Police for long about the prevailing situations in the state, who were later joined by the Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, two habeas corpus petitions were lodged in the Madras High Court by petitioners today, seeking to present their respective MLAs before the court. The relative of the MLA of Krishnarayapuram seat in Karur district and a voter of Kunnam seat in Perambalur district filed the cases saying they are inaccessible since the AIADMK MLAs meet held recently.
The Government pleader said there is no force being exerted on any of the ruling party MLAs and sought two weeks to respond. The bench consisting of Justices CT Selvam and T Mathivaanan directed to issue notices to the state Government and the police to file reply and posted the case for further hearing on Monday.
