Prakasam district TDP President and Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao requesting Zilla Parishad Chairman Edara Haribabu to allot 1.60 acre site for construction of the district party office, gained political prominence in the sleepy district.
It may be recalled that both Janardhana and Haribabu are political rivals in the district politics. Janardhana had played key role in getting suspension of Haribabu from TDP during ZP Chairman Elections. It was he now creating hurdles for him to return TDP.
Janardhana suggested Haribabu to move a resolution allocating the site for TDP’s office in the ZP general body meeting to be held on February 10. However, opposition parties and also employees unions have been opposing this move questioning how ZP site to be given for a party office.
Incidentally, Janardhana makes this move at a time he was brining pressure on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for a special GO enabling to move no-confidence motion against Haribabu. Normally the rules will not permit to move such a motion till completion of four year’s term. So far he completed only two and half years period. But, Janardhana is attempting to get a special GO for exemption from such period.
His plea for allotment of ZP site for party office is also said to be part of his strategy to prevent Haribabu from returning to TDP. Already Haribabu asserted that he is committed for the protection of ZP assets. As it may be difficult for him to spare ZP’s side for political purpose, it helps Janardhan to point out his failure to get a site for the party. Even if the site is allotted, naturally the credit goes to him only, for making the move.
Moreover, when Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy was MP and district party president prior to 2004, he had selected a site at Oora cheruvu for party office. But that was not materialised with the arrival of Congress government. Even now government lands are vacant at this place. But, Janardhan has reportedly not opting for this site fearing that would give credit to Balaram.
