Director Prasanth Varma started PVCU on a blockbuster note with HanuMan, and the third film from the Universe is announced in style through a poster and a motion video. Titled Mahakali, this project marks the first feature film for RKD Studios, a top distribution company in India.
Produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal and presented by RK Duggal, Mahakali is penned by Prasanth Varma and will be directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, making it notable as the first Indian female superhero film. Set in Bengal, the film weaves together themes of spirituality and mythology with current issues.
Mahakali will explore the divine power of Goddess Kali while tackling themes of discrimination, inner strength, and the reclamation of identity. The title logo features a girl and a tiger against a circus backdrop, with chaos unfolding as flames engulf a giant wheel.
The filmmakers have announced that a dark-skinned actress will lead the cast. The movie is set to be released in 3D IMAX format in multiple Indian languages and select foreign languages, with music composed by Smaran Sai and production design by Sri Nagendra Tangalla.
