Film industry is one place where the fate of people changes drastically in very short span. While some earn overnight fame as well as crores, some lose tens of crores before bowing out. Here is the curious case of a successful financier-turned-producer who lost more than 100 crore in just 3-4 years.
He has been a successful financier until a few years ago. With his bank balance steadily bulging, film industry looked quite lucrative for him. He wanted to expand his wings (earn more) and thus turned a producer, and it has been only downhill for him ever since.
In the past five years or so, he has produced good number of Telugu and Tamil films but there is hardly a commercial success to his credit. His high-budget movies have largely turned out to be disasters at box office. And the very few which fared well, were all cost failures. He has produced only two profitable films, both small budget films. If we summarize the box office performance of all his production ventures, he has lost more than 100 crores after venturing into production.
Irony is that he, who once financed most of Telugu biggies, is now desperately looking out for financiers to stay alive in production business. He has recently met a financier and sought 100 crore to make the films that he has in pipeline. He has a film starring a senior hero up for release.
Before taking up financing, he has been a successful businessman. He also vied for a starry political debut in 2014 with the support of a famed actor-turned-politician. His plans somehow didn’t work out and he later had a fall out with the actor.
