In a surprise development, a professor, who is a student sympathizer, from Hyderabad Central University, appealed to the students agitating on the campus, to revise their strategy and shun their ‘war mindset’. The worried professor made his appeal to students to be ready for dialogue as continued war with dialogue would be perilous, He posted the appeal on Facebook page.
Arun Patnaik, noted political science Professor of Hyderabad Central University, expressed dismay that the attitude adopted by the Student JAC was not conducive to the dialogue. Known among the students as friendly teacher the political science professor viewed the conditionalities set by the students for dialogue are an incorrect strategy. He is of the view that the SJAC is walking on one leg alone that is war. He is opposed to the continuous boycott of classes and says it is not good. He wants the students revisit the strategy and make dialogue a component of their strategy.
He suggested the SJAC not to forget the university, common students, future students and so on. He said yesterday’s AC meeting was, in fact, meant to approve the entry of future students.
“I am surprised to know that the S-JAC thinks of closing down the entry of future students by calling for the boycott of the AC! I am surprised to note that some faculty members have joined them too in this war-like campaign against ‘future students,” he said in the post.
“Think rationally: you are walking on one leg only. No long march of struggle is possible in this model. You will be tired after some time. Do not let yourself get tired of movement as it happened in the communist movement in Bengal. Learn valuable lessons from history and rethink of walking on one leg only,” he said. The boycott is like a form of war, he opines.
War, the professor said, without dialogue is like walking on one leg like Marxists so far.
“They ( the Marxists) walked on the one leg of class struggle without anti-caste movement. Where have the Marxists gone now with their one-legged strategy? Their long march with one leg strategy has come to a grinding halt. With one legged strategy, as (Yechuri) Sitaram recently claims, the communist movement only limped, not even walked. Got tired of even the class struggle and collapsed in Bengal,” Prof Patnaik said.
The professor also felt the need to revise the demands of the students. He said they should now set new goals: the withdrawal of police cases mostly against MA students; withdrawal of a possible suspension order of two teachers.
“Please think of a new strategy to work out their withdrawal. Otherwise, I will hold you responsible for pinning down the future of a large number of arrested MA students in jeopardy just because most the leaders of SJAC are not doing MA anymore. I will surely blame you and your Ego (unwilling for dialogue) by a one-sided approach to war. I appeal to sJAC to rethink of its war mindsets,” he said.
