TDP founder NT Rama Rao’s daughter, Daggubati Purandeswari, was not invited to National Women’s Parliament. YSRCP MLA Roja was detained by the police, when she went to attend the NWP. Purandeswari even gave interview to Jagan’s Sakshi Channel. Apart from these situations, a photo of the two ladies attending a function surfaced, thus giving rise to buzzes about Purandeswari bidding adieu to BJP and joining YSRCP.
Purandeswari who switched sides from Congress to BJP ahead of 2014 polls, lost in the elections from Rajampet Lok Sabha segment. She wanted to contest from Vishaka but upon Chandrababu’s discretion she had to contest from Rajampet. The infamous rivalry between Purandeswari and Chandrababu prompted her to join the Congress Party against whom her father NTR fought all his life. Due to the prevalent political conditions post bifurcation of the state, Purandeswari deserted Congress and joined BJP in 2014. However, the saffron party will be deserted in the state especially after failing to keep up the promise of Special Category Status. Connecting these dots, speculations arose about the former Union Minister stint with BJP.
However Daggupati sources rubbished the rumors about switching sides. Also at this stage, she would prefer to stay in BJP and it is very unlikely for her to join YSRCP anytime in the future. The leader doesn’t want to respond immediately to these tales. The sources sense that these speculations will be helpful for their leader to express dissatisfaction and to exert pressure on TDP and Chandrababu, who is influencing the BJP leaders. One of the RSS leaders said that such situations are not a new thing to BJP and will soon settle down.
Purandeswari is keen to contest from Visakha Lok Sabha segment where Jagan’s mother Vijayamma faced a defeat. With the former’s image, the poll prospects of YSRCP in the constituency will improve. However the sources claim that it is no use pondering about elections now as they are not in near future. Rather it would be better to wait and watch how things unfold instead of hurriedly taking a decision.
